It Takes Two by Hazelight Studios was titled game of the year last night during the 2021 Game Awards as Twitter celebrates its win.
Amongst the other awards that were won tonight by titles that deserved them, the main award of the event the Game of the Year award was announced by last years Game of the Year Winners Creative Writer Neil Druckman to be It Takes Two.
This action-adventure platform game tackles a series issue in a comedic way. Players take on the role of a couple who are planning on divorcing after they can no longer see eye-to-eye, however after telling their daughter about this she puts a spell on them turning them into dolls to try and get them to work as a team again. The couple must then overcome countless puzzles and bosses in order to return to their original form.
Josef Fares, the director of It Takes Two, accepted the award and congratulate all those that had voted on the title saying:
"It is so unreal this thing...I want to thank my beautiful team as obviously without them I couldn't make it...This is a big moment for me."
It Takes Two also won two other awards during the event, they were Best Family and Best Multiplayer experience.
Viewers of the Game Awards posted on Twitter their praise for the adventure game as one user said:
"It Takes Two completely deserved that! Been praising the game ever since it released, congrats!"
However, others were disappointed to see what was classed as Game of the Year for 2021 as one user posted:
"Considering 2021 been one of the worst years for gaming, I’m not surprised. No disrespect to It Takes Two, it’s fun but I don’t think it’s Game of the Year worthy, definitely best puzzle/platform adventure though."
There may have been other titles to choose from this year for the Game Awards however due to the current pandemic many companies were left to delay their titles to as early as February 2021. Players will have to wait till December next year to find out which of these titles could have been Game of the Year.
