A leading rural charity has called upon the governments aid to battle the increasing homelessness across the UK.
New government data released on September 12th showed the number of households that class as homeless in rural towns and villages across England have increased over 85% in the past year.
Therefore, in June this year, The Campaign to Protect Rural England (the CPRE) in partnership with housing groups and Charites such as the National Housing Federation called on the government to invest £12.8 billion a year in housing funds over the next ten years.
Joe Colins- Head of PR for CPRE said: "if additional funding is not put in place there will be a human catastrophe."
However, there has also been an increase in homelessness nationally data released by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government showed an increase of 45% from 79,715 in 2018 to 116,001 in 2019, Joe Colins expects these figures to rise "substantially" by 2020.
Joe Colins has announced charity is trying to battle this problem he said: "As a charity we're trying to find affordable and suitable housing...so we can get people...safe and secure"
